When to send RSVP Invitations

Once you’ve set a date for your wedding, your next part of wedding planning will be to let your guests know about the big, special day.

What Should be Included in Wedding Invitations?

Your wedding invitations should be sent out along with your RSVP card, and any other helpful information for your guests – such as travel and accommodation details, food menu and dress code. We’ve written a blog post all about the information and details that you need to include in your Wedding Invites, read the blog post here.

When Should You Send Out Wedding Invitations?

Ideally, you should send these out between 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding date. This gives guests enough time to look at their calendars and make a decision as to whether they are able to make your Special Day. It also allows guests to get time off work and make any other arrangements. Remember, although you want to get organised it is often recommended that you don’t send your invites out too early, otherwise guests may not be able to commit or to your future date.

Wedding Invitations for Overseas Guests

If you’re sending invitations to guests that live overseas, it’s a good idea to let them know beforehand that they should be expecting them. This not only tells them that they need to look out for an invite in the post, but also gives them enough time to book accommodation and travel arrangements. Therefore, you may decide to send these out no later than 12 weeks before the wedding date.

When Should People RSVP By?

You’ll need to include a cut off date in your wedding invitation, this is the date that you need guests to RSVP by. As you’ll need to know guest numbers in order to organise catering and wedding favours, you should aim to get all RSVP’s one month before the wedding. If you haven’t heard off guests by then, it may be worth giving them a quick call.

Email Invitations and Wedding Details

As well as sending out paper invites, you can also send reminders out via email and direct to RSVP forms on your wedding website. This way, you are ensuring guests are prepared and reminded to RSVP within the correct date limits, but also making your wedding planning easier by having a guest list all in one place.

You can also add all of the important and relevant information onto your wedding website, this way guests can look back at the details of the wedding even if they don’t have the paper invite to hand.

If you’re sending out paper invites, then chances are you will be doing lots of trips to the post office, but it will all be worth it on the wedding day when you’re surrounded by your loved ones.
